Health Promotion

According to the World Health Organization, health promotion is a process of enabling people to increase control over and to improve their health. People with disabilities have pressing needs for health information and services due to health disparities and barriers accessing health services and health promotion programs. If you do not see yourself in an awareness campaign, you minimize your risks.

Arkansas Can Do, Inc. is a collaboration of individuals with disabilities, their family members and representatives from agencies and organizations interested in disability issues. The purpose of Arkansas Can Do is to increase the positive perceptions of all people regarding the vitality, importance and value of persons with disabilities. ADHP worked with Arkansas Can Do to develop health awareness public service announcements and materials.

In our work with the Arkansas Department of Health to promote the inclusion of individuals with disabilities into their public health campaigns, ADHP developed a toolkit titled Tips for Including People with Disabilities in Health Promotion Campaigns.
