About This Training
The PBS Project is designed to guide staff through the complete process of developing a behavior plan for a
person with I/DD.
The training is provided in three sessions with at least two weeks’ time in between. Topics include:
- Understanding the PBS model
- Defining behavior
- Identifying the behavioral context (ABCs)
- Collecting and analyzing data to determine function
- Developing strategies (prevention, intervention, life style enhancement)
- Writing, implementing, monitoring the plan
Also includes information on de-escalation, trauma informed care, sensory processing, the community
settings rule and AAC.
How?
The training uses active participation and multi-sensory instruction to maximize adult learning.
Since adults learn best by doing, participants are guided through every step of the process from choosing their
high priority person for a PBS plan, through collecting/analyzing data, to developing the plan.
Who Should Attend?
Any staff who will be involved in developing or implementing behavior plans.
Outcome
Certification as a Positive Behavior Support Specialist will be provided following:
- Participation in all training sessions
- Acquisition of information (minimum score of 80 on a written exam)
- Submission of a quality PBS Plan following completion of the training (rubric provided)
NOTE: This training meets all requirements outlined in the CES Waiver regulations (8.1.2022) for Behavior Prevention & Intervention Plan and Positive Behavior Support Plan.
