Understanding the Impact of Hearing Loss for Older Individuals

Description of Training:
Hearing loss is a condition that is prevalent among older people. Nearly 25 percent of those age 65 to 74 and 50 percent of those who are 75 and older have significant hearing loss. As we age, changes in our hearing can impact communication and understanding. It’s important for anyone who provides services to people who are older to understand the impact of hearing loss. This presentation will give service providers an overview of hearing loss in the older population and provide strategies for understanding and supporting older individuals. Strategies to maximize effective communication and an overview of personal listening devices and their use will be discussed. This training is intended anyone who may be providing service to older individuals.
